Econowind
"At Econowind, based in the Netherlands, we have developed the VentoFoil®, a wind-assisted propulsion system based on advanced suction wing technology. Since its market introduction in 2018, the Ventifoil—later succeeded by the newer VentoFoil—has helped ships save fuel, reduce emissions, and improve overall profitability.
To date, more than 150 units have been sold, with 22 vessels currently operating at sea equipped with two or more VentoFoils. In 2026, the active VentoFoil fleet is expected to double in size.
Our customer base is international, with installations in Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, and Brazil. More recently, we have secured significant orders from Japan, where the first vessels are now being fitted with four 16-meter VentoFoils, including ATEX-certified systems.
In operation, vessels equipped with VentoFoil typically achieve fuel savings of around 10%, with some ships realizing even higher reductions depending on route and operating profile. Our product range has recently expanded, and we now offer VentoFoil units in 10, 16, 24, and 30-meter heights."
